Queensland says an unregistered vehicle can be sold without a safety certificate, and an exemption applies when a registered vehicle is traded to a licensed motor dealer. Bring photo ID and proof you own the car — usually the Queensland registration papers, a purchase receipt or another record that identifies the vehicle. Registered and unregistered vehicles have different Queensland requirements, so we confirm the transfer or cancellation steps with you before pickup.
